Growing up in a family of avid record collectors, the London-based producer Alistair Gibbs, was home-schooled in everything from jazz, hip hop and dub, crate-digging for vintage breakbeats at just 13. Having made records under various aliases in the early 90s, he made his first release as Nebraska in 2000. Since then, he’s had releases on Rush Hour, Heist, Delusions of Grandeur and Mister Saturday Night, and now helms his own Friends & Relations label. Here Nebraska brings us ‘Funkbraska’ in both full length and edit versions, available solely on Bandcamp. The track is obviously and unashamedly indebted to that 90s French Touch sound,Chic’s influence on early rap records, and Uncle George’s P-Funk synth-soldier Bernie Worrell. Written and produced by Nebraska, the bass guitar comes courtesy of session ace Dan Hawkins, plus additional keys from Daniel Leseman who we all know and love as one half of the amazing Fouk.
