Journalists found out that Bruno Sacco, the chief designer of Daimler-Benz AG in the period from 1975 to 1999, died on September 19 in the suburbs of Stuttgart. The Italian-German automotive designer and chief engineer has been responsible for the appearance of all Mercedes-Benz road cars, buses and trucks for a quarter of a century! Sacco’s favorite project was the Mercedes-Benz 190 (W201). Under the leadership of Bruno Sacco, all Mercedes cars of the 1980s and 1990s were developed: he was responsible for three generations of S-Classes (W126, W140, W220), the R129 SL convertible, E-Class business sedans (W124, W210), as well as compact C-Class models (W201, W202, W203). The chief designer had a hand in the first M-Class, and the maestro’s final project was the SL in the R230 body.
