Rodney Marvin McKuen (April 29, 1933 - Beverly Hills, January 29, 2015) was an American poet, singer-songwriter, composer, and actor.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, he was the most popular and best-selling poet in America.
In 1971 he suddenly became extremely popular in the Netherlands, partly due to his performance in the TV program ’Voor de vuist weg’ by Willem Duys.
In the Veronica Top 40 he had two number 1 hits in a row, first with the anti-war song ’Soldiers Who Want To Be Heroes’ and then with ’Without a Worry in the World’ (composed to the melody of the song ’Le Métèque’ by French chansonnier Georges Moustaki). This single reached no. 2 in the Dutch Top 40.
The compilation album Greatest Hits Vol. 3 was nr.1 of the LP top 50 in Holland for weeks. On October 17, 1971 he recorded the album The Amsterdam Concert, a recording of his live performance in the Concertgebouw.
This single ’Amor, amor’ reached #10 in the Dutch Top 40 on 6 May 1978
