ABOUT (press release of the concert)
Over the space of just a few years, Snarky Puppy has become a remarkable instrumental fusion-jazz ensemble. Bassist and musical leader Michael League constantly flirts with different genres, styles and lineups. Moreover, the live shows always guide the creative process. The fact that this year Snarky Puppy won the Grammy for Best R&B Performance – for a song recorded with Donny Hathaway’s daughter Lalah – demonstrates the ensemble’s versatility. The New York ensemble has a warm bond with the Netherlands. Not only did they make their debut at the North Sea Jazz Festival last year, but the album We Like It Here (2014) was recorded live at Kyteman’s studio in Utrecht. During this year’s festival, Snarky Puppy is performing with a ten-piece band and four vocalists, including Malika Tirolien and N’Dambi. Improvisation and finesse coupled with raw dynamics are guaranteed once more.
