STORYLINE:
Ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney married 34 year old former model Heather Mills on Tuesday in a church on the grounds of Castle Leslie in Ireland.
Earlier, fellow ex-Beatle Ringo Starr led the coterie of celebrity guests arriving for their marriage.
Starr flew into Belfast airport in a private jet and was whisked off across the Province, over the border and into Castle Leslie at Glaslough.
Other guests, including British musicians Chrissie Hynde of the rock group The Pretenders and Jools Holland, were met by coaches and were driven to the remote wedding venue.
For fans gathered outside the castle, church bells were the clearest indication the couple had indeed married in the Protestant Church of Ireland St. Salvator’s chapel.
There was no official word from within the castle, but journalists and wellwishers outside took the appearance of a rainbow and the ringing of bells at 5:20 p.m (1520 GMT) to mean the couple had wed.
Aerials showed guests walking into the church earlier in the afternoon with the sun shining brightly unlike many days leading up to Ireland’s wedding of the year.
There was no sign of the happy couple but they said on Monday they will release a photo of themselves, with media organisations using it asked to make a donation to a children’s charity.
A floral-garlanded boat was moored at a specially built pier for the newly weds to watch a special fireworks display as part of the festivities.
