[4k] Drone Tour of New Mexico’s Huge Lave Flow - Carrizozo Lava Flow/Valley of Fires Recreation Area

The Carrizozo lava flow (locally known as Carrizozo Malpais) is located in south-central New Mexico. This lava flow is more than 40 miles (64km) long, 40 feet (12m) thick, and covers more than 130 square miles (330 sq km) of land. The eruption started about 5,000 years ago and lasted about 3 decades. The lava came from a vent, Little Black Peak, which is now a 88-ft (27-m) tall cinder cone (02:23). The Valley of Fires Recreation Area (BLM) provides access to the lava flow and the highway 380 which cuts through the lava flow also offers several view points.
