ELMS 2001 - Jarama - BMW Motorsport - BMW M3 GTR

The debut appearance of the BMW M3 GTR race cars in European endurance racing was unsuccessful - during the second round of the ELMS 2001 season held at Donington, the cars suffered from a number of mechanical gremlins and reliability related issues, including uncontrollable emission of flames from exhaust system. All those misfortunes inevitably led to an early retirement of both cars from the race. Having analyzed the data gathered from the Donington outing, BMW Motorsport effectively applied several updates in regards to aforementioned drawbacks and it turned into a completely different story of competitiveness in the third round of the season held in Spain, Jarama. Qualifying session went exceptionally well for BMW Motorsport, as both M3 GTRs occupied two top positions on the starting grid. The race saw both cars spearheading the GT field and continuously ruffling Porsche’s fenders all over the distance. In the end, such a great performance awarded BMW Motorsport with a double victory and successfully realized opportunity to demonstrate the true potential of the BMW M3 GTR.
