The dogs were carried over the floodwater to safety as Storm Gerrit forces residents to evacuate Scottish town. The Met Office has issued nine weather alerts in force across the UK, in warnings of widespread disruption which came to pass on Wednesday, 27 December as powerful winds and flooding wrought havoc on public transport. The Met Office has warned of wind gusts of up to 75mph in some parts of the UK, with other areas expected to receive 15cm of snow and 90mm of rain.
