Quantum Light Induces an Emergent Quasicrystalline Symmetry

With eight tiny mirrors and quantum light, natural quasicrystals could be simulated in the laboratory. Emergent symmetry forces atoms into 8-fold rotational symmetry under ultra-cold conditions. This special experiment was developed by scientists of the Theoretical Physics Department of the University of Innsbruck. (Link to the license of the Wikipedia images used: )
