’Evil will be defeated’, Zelensky tells Ukraine in Christmas message

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has issued a Christmas message to his country assuring them of eventual victory over Russia. In the message released on Sunday (December 24), Zelenskiy stands in front of Kyiv’s famous Pechersk Lavra monastery complex and speaks of praying for the end of the war, which began when Russia invaded its neighbour in February 2022. “Step by step, day by day, darkness is losing and darkness will finally lose, the evil will lose,“ he said. For the first time, Ukraine will celebrate Christmas Day on December 25 after Zelenskiy signed into law a parliamentary bill to “abandon the Russian cultural and religious heritage“ and switched the official Christmas Day state holiday from January 7, a move aimed at distancing the country from Russian traditions.
