Earwigs and Baby Earwigs

Here are some adult and baby earwigs. Earwigs make up the insect order Dermaptera. Earwigs have characteristic cerci, a pair of forceps pincers on their abdomen, and membranous wings folded underneath short forewings. I found some burrows under some logs in our yard in Orlando, FL. In a season, females reproduce up to 20-60 eggs laid in burrows (called chambers), 2 to 3 inches beneath the soil. Most species have one generation a year.
