A Felled Forest (US) — Requiem for a Black Heart — 2023 EP

The third record, and second EP of this project, from the United States. A shorter record that follows a similar path as the preceding record, crafting a rather harmonious and harsh kind of black metal under a mid-paced rhythm. This time however I can see a growth in synth usage, not only as a filler to enforce deeper atmospheric passages but actually embroidering the melody’s boundaries with stark and pristine synth harmonies. This is true for the first track and moderately so to the second. As for the third one, it takes on a different route, a very melancholic one, reminiscent of Blutklinge’s Reflection of a Bleak Mind. As such I felt compelled to add depressive to the genre, maybe in the future it will be the chosen place for further explorations of this magnificent project.
