They call themselves by the autonym: Tanêks(a), in Siouan Biloxi language. The Biloxi People inhabited an area ear the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, near what is now, the city of Biloxi, Mississippi. They were eventually “forced” west into Louisiana and eastern Texas. The Tunica-Biloxi Tribe is one of four federally recognized Native American tribes in the state of Louisiana. There are 1,226 enrolled Tunica-Biloxi tribal members, interspersed throughout Louisiana, Texas, Illinois and other parts of the United States. The majority of tribal families in Louisiana reside in Avoyelles and Rapide
