#43 Lockdown Learning Bioinformatics-along: Short-read alignment, the Burrows-Wheeler Transform

Countdown: 0:00 Introduction: 5:00 Downloading new data: 18:15 Burrows-Wheeler Transform: 37:11 Back after our week’s break, in lesson #43 we start working on a new topic - short-read alignment. In this session we download some new data, and introduce a common algorithm in read alignment - the Burrows-Wheeler Transform (BWT). Walk through a practical introduction to bioinformatics skills with me while working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic. Aimed at wet-lab types who want to take this unique and strange opportunity to begin learning some bioinformatics. I am going to begin at the beginning and take it nice and slow. Our first aim will be to develop the skills required to analyse and visualise a (covid-relevant) RNA-Seq dataset.
