The relationship the United States and Latin America have is a very special relationship. Since President James Monroe launched what would be later known as the Monroe Doctrine in 1823, the United States has practically done everything in Latin America: among other actions, it has set up governments, overthrown governments, financed guerrillas and armies, to name a few. The results haven’t been very positive. Well, since Donald Trump arrived in the White House, both Vice President Mike Pence and former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson have visited the region.
