Thomas Test

The lumbar spine should maintain contact with table. Less than zero degrees of hip extension indicates a tight iliopsoas. Simultaneous extension of the knee during this maneuver indicates tightness of the rectus femoris. If less than 80 degrees of knee flexion is available, the rectus femoris may be considered tight. Hip abduction in the test position may indicate IT band or lateral tissue tightness.
