When it comes to most team sports, how quick you can get from 0-60 is a key component of your athleticism. Most will call this your “first step quickness“ or how fast you accelerate, and it’s something worthwhile training!
While top speed can be important, most sports never achieve it, but you continuously have to use your first step whether on offense or defense.
While there are many more exercises I could share, especially once you start applying reactive training (reacting to visual, auditory, kinesthetic cues), I wanted to give a quality toolbox to implement into your training and build a quicker first step and accelerate faster.
I shared some strength exercises that carry over extremely well when it comes to acceleration but in general its important to improve your strength and how much force you can produce, just as it’s important to have the appropriate mobility to be able to be the best athlete.
