The Steyr AUG (“Armee Universal Gewehr“, english: “Universal Army Rifle“) is a bullpup rifle, designed in the 1960s by Austrian gun manufacturer Steyr and chambered in ×45mm NATO/.223 Remington and 9×19mm Parabellum (9mm).
It was adopted by the Austrian Army in 1978 and is the standard rifle of various Austrian police units. It is designed as a Modular Weapon System that can be configured as a rifle, a carbine, a sniper rifle and a submachine gun.
