Scully, like Mulder, wants to believe desperately. Its one of their major points of connection. For her, its to believe that God is real, but she is simultaneously afraid that both her scientific training and experiences tell her otherwise. And if she does believe in God, then how does one reconcile all the bad things that happen? I think she struggles with that a lot.
