Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and . Today, we’re channeling some vintage overdrive tones with the Gray Channel by EarthQuaker Devices. The Gray Channel is a dual-channel overdrive with its roots in DOD’s most classic box, the Overdrive 250. Both Red and Green channels start with the 250 as their base, and then expands on them with some much-needed tweaks, such as increased bass response and stackability. The Red channel offers three clipping modes, and each imparts a unique characteristic to the drive. MOSFET mode offers a heavy compression with a tight crunch, and LED offers a loud, clean drive sound. N mode is a dual-purpose drive, offering everything from clean boost to a gnarly pure op-amp distortion. The Green channel also offers N mode, but also offers Silicon and Germanium modes. Silicon mode offers a tube-like breakup sound, where Germanium mode is a bit looser and softer with an added warmth. Of the two footswitches, one bypasses the entire
