Sadhguru narrates the heartrending story of a Nath Yogi who offered his eyes to a woman who was enamoured by them. On Sadhguru’s Enlightenment Day, this musical story is a tribute to all the great masters who devoted their lives to making people experience divinity within, and in everybody and everything around them.

Alakh niranjan Ghil Ghil gunjana bHava bHaya bHanjana bairAgi
DhaDa dhaDa bandanu dvAradi nindanu bHiksheyu endanu A jogi
“Alakh Niranjan” he chanted away - the fearless, colourless being…
He came in stride, standing at the door - an Alms seeking Yogi.
Chandana charchita Bhasmodvarchita bandHura sundara sanyAsi
Smeared in and sacred ash, adorned in sandalwood paste - A transfixing beautiful saint…
Yede jHal enditu - mai Jhum enditu saiyama(सैयम) pAshavu saDilittu
KangaLa mangaLa kAntiya shAntiya kaDalina oDalali siDilittu
Her heart skipped a beat, Her body in tingles - her ropes of restraint loosened…
In the gentle and calm ocean of her eyes - thunder and lightning had struck!
Nachike nalleya galla gulAbige mellane gullanu kottittu
Embarrassed and shy, her cheeks slowly turned red.
Alakh niranjana alakh niranjana kanchina kanThavu moLagittu
HeNNina kaNNige habbava habbisi minchina mooruti belagittu
“Alakh Niranjan, Alakh Niranjan” his ringing voice came back…
A festive joy, spread across her eyes, the lightning struck again!
SHapaTHavu mareyitu kupaTHavu tereyitu kareyitu kinkiNi jHenkAra
Forgetting her duties, she chose the mischievous path,
As the sounds of the Yogi’s bell called out to her…
KaraNava yeleyitu haraNava seLeyitu hoonkarisuva smara TankAra
Nillada meluda mellane teeDuta saridaLu praNayada rangeri
Reason vanished, she was taken over, as the roar of love resounded..
She stood gracefully, moved gently, as she adjusted her colourful saree…
Nillele jogiye ninnaya kaNNali yentaha kAntiyu kuNiyutide
Tejah punjada kAnti vilAsake ravi shashi naidile maNiyutive
“Oh Yogi standing in front of me, what is this brilliance i see in your eyes?
Radiant like a gem, your shine stands out even amongst the sun and the moon!”
Alakh niranjana alakh niranjana marudina bandanu A jogi
Ukkina bAgilu gakkane tereyitu muntere sareyitu mareyalli
“Alakh Niranjan, Alakh Niranjan” - he came back again, the next day…
The closed door, she swiftly opened, and he stood in front of her again.
TAyiye tegeduko ennuta jogiyu neerege THAliya kottidda
THAliya taLadali THala THala hoLeyuva kannugaLeradanu ittidda
“O Mother”, he called her, and the Yogi gave her his begging bowl…
At the bottom of the bowl, were kept his two sparkling eyes.
TAyiye ninneya dina nee nennaya kaNNina baNNane mADiddi
Garatiya goriya kattida togalina A kaNN kittido tandihenu
“O mother, you spoke so admiringly of my eyes yesterday
I plucked and brought them to you, which built a married woman’s grave”
Alakh niranjana alakh niranjana naDedanu nirvyathe A jogi
Togalina kaNbaliyindali gnAnada oLegaN tereyisi kuruDAgi
“Alakh Niranjan, Alakh Niranjan” - the Yogi walked away, unbothered…
By giving up his outward eyes, he opened her inner eye!
