"Old Green River" The Six & Seven-Eighths String Band Of New Orleans Folkways FP 671 1956

I don’t know much of anything about this group but I picked up this LP at a local thrift store a few months ago and have fallen in love with it. Reminded me somehow of Robert Crumb & The Cheap Suit Serenaders. Anyhow, I noticed I couldn’t find any YouTube videos to share it so I decided to upload this track. I hope to add more tracks soon. These recordings are available on CD or Download from the Smithsonian. I am simply sharing this music and make no claims to own it etc. “New Orleans string band jazz was popular between 1910 and 1925, but the genre was seldom recorded. This ensemble—featuring Bill Kleppinger, Bernie Shields, Edmond Souchon, and Frank “Red“ Mackie—began playing in 1913 and performs the traditional New Orleans jazz band repertoire on mandolin, guitar, steel guitar, and bass.“ Taken from Smithsonian website.
