Can I get an Amen? Joint speech, dialogical sense-making, and logos

Keynote address given at a conference on “language and enaction“ in Claremont Ferrand, June 2016. Here, I introduce the topic of joint speech (saying the same thing at the same time), and examine the role of call-and-response structures that are found in both prayer and protest. The generalised assent signalled by “amen“ is also considered. (Sound on the few video examples suffers from echoing. Sorry.)
