But Tookie had seen what ’fame’ and ’stardom’ could do when he and a coach load of Ladbroke Grove-ites travelled to see Marc Bolan perform at Boston Gliderdome and saw Marc back stage looking “like a fragile porcelain doll“ and one witness commented that she wondered how long a star shining so brightly could last. So Tookie preferred to play benefit events for worthy causes and small gigs where he mixed in a bit of comedy and social statements such as environmental concerns in with his music.
