The great Belgian singer-songwriter Jacques Brel (1929-1978) wrote this antiwar song for his final album, “Les Marquises,“ in 1977. Jean Jaurès, French socialist leader & pacifist, was assassinated in Paris on July 31, 1914, on the very eve of fighting in World War I.
