Hunga Tonga Volcano Eruption Update; Large Earthquake, New Volcanic Cone

The Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcano in Tonga just produced a new eruption, sending a plume of ash 16,000 meters or 52,500 feet into the atmosphere. Today marks day 16 of the eruption, as the risk of additional intermittent additional explosions continue. While this eruption has been ongoing, it was determined that it originated from a completely new vent on Hunga Tonga’s main island! This has led to the creation of a new volcanic cone, and the island has expanded by 73%. This video will separate fact from fiction and discuss what size and duration of volcanic activity is expected at Hunga Tonga. It is a very famous volcano as it has produced several spectacular island forming eruptions in the 21st century.
