No Respite For Germans (1914-1918)

No respite for Germans. Location unclear but possibly France. World War One. Great war footage--actually it’s horrible; a perfect vision of the Western Front. Slow pan over ground; stumps & sticks; uprooted tree. Ruins of church. Very dramatic. One part of front wall standing; with stained glass window at top; the rest of the building is crumbled; a huge pile of rubble. Glimpse of 2 people on left walking through the ruins. Blown up bridge; some soldiers on each side of river. CU of another bombed bridge. French artillery in action; loading big field gun — about 5 guys working as a team. Shot looking from the artillery position: the most desolate landscape one could ever imagine. A twisted ragged tree in FG; and; across what might be a river; a wasteland; with a row of other burned scraggly trees in the distance. Puffs of smoke as shells hit over by the trees. This is spooky and depressing. War damage;destruction; horror; no-man’s-land. War is hell. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLO
