Eduard von Sass Biography

Eduard Heinrich Hartwig Reinhold Freiherr von Saß (September 11, 1900 – February 1, 1946) was a German colonel in World War II . In the German-Soviet war during the Battle of Welikiye Luki, he commanded the approximately 7,500 members of the Wehrmacht who were surrounded in the city. A Red Army military tribunal sentenced him and others to death for war crimes in 1946.
