J.S. Bach/, Chaconne in D Minor (Massimiliano Pitocco, bayan)
Massimiliano Pitocco plays Chaconne in D minor (from Partita no. 2 in D minor for solo violin, BWV 1004) by Johann Sebastian Bach in the Ferruccio Busoni’s transcription.
The Chaconne, fifth and last movement of the Partita no. 2 in D minor for solo violin BWV 1004 by Johann Sebastian Bach, is one of the top masterpieces in the violin literature of all times. It is, as everybody knows, a series of variations on a simple Four-Bar Bass line, which follow one another without interruption within a structure which develops in a grand composition range. Although conceived specifically for the violin, taking full advantage of all its technical resources known up to that moment, the Chaconne is also, in many ways, a perfect example of pure music, and as such, has been the subject of many arrangements for other instruments, including the celebrated one by Andres Segovia for guitar, by Ferruccio Busoni for piano and by Frederich Lips for bayan, which can rightly be regarded as separate compositions.
