He has devoted the past 22 years to raking the muck in rat-infested claustrophobic sewers beneath the city. The force has a 75 per cent success rate and every day Bursini feels like Indiana Jones. Yet even veterans wouldn’t want to get lost in this 2,500 kilometre network of tunnels. Luckily, there are road signs telling you exactly where you are and what’s above.
