Wilhelm Reich was born on March 24, 1897, on a small farm in what is now the Ukraine. A student of psychology, at age twenty-three he became one of Freud’s prized associates and began private practice as an analytic psychiatrist, coining the term “orgone energy“ – as in the word “orgasm“ and “organism“ – to describe a biological energy that he said he had discovered, or re-discovered in modern times.
