Watch part one here: La Laguna is called the cultural capital of the island of Tenerife. The full name of the city is San Cristobal de la Laguna. This is the oldest city in Tenerife. It was founded in 1496. La Laguna stands on the site of an ancient Guanche settlement. Once there was a small bay here, a lagoon inland, the memory of which remained only in the name of the city. The historic center of La Laguna has survived to this day in the same form as it was created hundreds of years ago. The entire “old town“ is declared a World Heritage Site and is under the protection of UNESCO. We will walk today in only one part of the old town.
