Jason Dea West — “I’d Gone to Disappear“

Jason Dea West is currently based in Arizona, but is originally from here in the Chippewa Valley. As such the last time he was back in the area we took the opportunity to film with Jason in the historic Mabel Tainter Theater in downtown Menomonie. Menomonie is not only his hometown, but his roots there reach back to the early 1900’s when his family settled on what was formerly the Knapp, Stout & Co farm. Many generations of Jason’s family have since regularly visited the Mabel to take in performances there, and it was likewise a place Jason himself spent a lot of time in his younger days—sometimes during official operating hours, sometimes sneaking in to its allegedly haunted confines. …and so it was with over a century of these ties and memories in mind that Jason debuted the previously unrecorded & unreleased “I’d Gone to Disappear”—a song fittingly about striking out from home to build a life away from all that is familiar and comfortable. Major thanks to Mabel Tainter for allowing us to do this—please continue supporting this beautiful venue so it can remain a place for families to create memories for many more generations yet to come. Thanks as well to Knorth Studios who brought this all to life with their combination of creative instincts and technical know-how. So glad to have teamed up with them for this first (but not last) field recording.
