Master Gomer’s Bat Fly Surprise

Although it’s technically the first day of autumn in Australia, the weather is diabolically hot and humid which just happens to be perfect weather for bat flies or Nycteribiidae! As just about every bat carers worst nightmare, these super sonic parasitic creepy crawlies are notoriously difficult to remove. Rescued on the weekend by Charlotte and Connor, poor Gomer was crawling with bat flies and although I have managed to remove the vast majority there are still a few hangers on. Whilst bat flies are a part of batty life, such a large burden is best removed especially on one so young, as Gomer is only around four months of age. Master Gomer will be in care with us for a few weeks before he is released back to the wild.
