Israeli chief ’sorry’ for deadly strikes on aid workers

Herzi Halevi, the Israeli chief of staff, has #apologised for a series of strikes in Gaza that killed seven #aid workers, including three Britons. Three vehicles belonging to the World Central Kitchen (WCK), a humanitarian group delivering food to the besieged enclave, were hit by missiles fired from an Israeli drone on Monday. The convoy, which included two armoured cars emblazoned with the charity’s logo, was leaving a warehouse after unloading more than 100 tons of humanitarian food aid brought to Gaza by sea, WCK said. The IDF chief said: “This incident was a grave mistake. Israel is at war with Hamas, not with the people of Gaza,” Mr Halevi said. “We are sorry for the unintentional harm to the members of WCK.” He added that the strike “followed a misidentification at night, during a war, in very complex conditions.
