This is the first time a Russian president has visited the DPRK for almost a quarter of a century. The last time Putin was in North Korea was July 2000, when he met with Kim Jong-il, the father of the current head of state. Do you remember anything about that visit? We’ve collected some archive footage for you to watch. Putin visited the tomb of Kim Il Sung, the founder of North Korea, at the Kumsusan Memorial Palace. He also paid his respects at the ‘Liberation’ monument, dedicated to Soviet soldiers. The talks were held in a closed format and lasted for almost two hours. After the meeting, the leaders signed a joint declaration. According to Putin, this document was a significant milestone in bilateral relations and set out the main priorities for their partnership in the future.
