Robert Banks - A Mighty Good Way

Gospel singer, pianist and choral leader, Robert Banks is best known among soul fans, Northern Soul fans particularly, for the rocking “A Mighty Good Way“ on Verve. It was a huge unexpected smash on the Northern Soul scene, which is rare for a purely Gospel record. Banks recorded an album for Verve, “The Message“, which featured Banks and other soloists doing gospel tunes with touches of soul and pop such as this hit, “A Mighty Good Way“ and “So Much to Thank Him For“, which has a nice groove and good singing by Banks and a femme chorus. Banks was the arranger for the Soul Music version of “Jesus Christ Superstar“ and was the arranger on literally hundreds of soul classics coming out of the New York area in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
