What is the difference between a master’s punch and a beginner’s punch? It would seem that a master does the same thing as a beginner - but faster and stronger.
However, due to what do these speed and strength arise?
...Once, about 30 years ago, it occurred to me to watch at a slow speed how a real master performs a basic karate kick - “tsuki“. I wanted to analyze this in detail and understand how a master’s blow differs from a beginner’s blow.
So, in this video, Morio Higaonna (at that time 8 dan) performed a tsuki - but what did I see on the screen?
When he shows the punch slowly, everything goes as usual. - but when he strikes with speed and force, miracles begin. The stronger the blow, the less it resembles the canonical form.
I was looking at the screen and thinking: Is it still Tsuki? Ist his tsuki at all?
And if this is the case, maybe instead of developing your technique by touch for years, it would be worth studying this particular form of movement right away?
