Antisemitism used to mute debate on Israel! Says someone who did it.

The antisemitism scam that brought down Jeremy Corbyn has meant some hens have come home to roost for some in the media... Right, so as South Africa prepare to take Israel to the World Court for Genocide and public opinion increasingly turns against Israel for what they are doing in Gaza and what they’ve done for decades across Palestine and beyond and along with that has come a rise in antisemitism. All of a sudden some mainstream journalists are asking how did we get here? Where did it go wrong? And some are even switched on enough to realise that it conflating antisemitism with the Israeli state might have something to do with that, the weaponisation of antisemitism over the last several years might have something to do with that. But this hasn’t come from any old mainstream source, some sage, altruistic, risen above it all journalist, someone worthy of the name shall we say. This has come from someone who was literally engaged in it, back when weaponizing antisemitism was used to get rid of a former Labour leader in Jeremy Corbyn, who would have brought change for the betterment of the lives of ordinary people up and down this country was seen as a perfectly fine thing for establishment stooges to do, it was the mud that finally stuck to a politician who was otherwise as honest as the day is long and squeaky clean in his background, it was the smear that worked and now that there is significant fallout in this country from that, now, all of a sudden, Jewish journalist Robert Peston has had some kind of epiphany! Right, so the antisemitism scam that brought down Corbyn, you know it, I know it, let’s not get bogged back down in that, suffice to say it worked, those who worked against him both inside the Labour Party, Keir Starmer’s faction, and outside mainly in the press brought him down, handed the country to Boris Johnson after narrowly failing to beat Theresa May, a proper election campaign instead of a snap election might have won it, but all of this is now academic and historical. What isn’t is the racism fallout from weaponizing antisemitism to do what they did. Now seemingly completely unaware of his own part in all of this, Robert Peston has put out a tweet in the wee small hours of this morning saying: ‘As a Jew, I have become increasingly worried that the charge of antisemitism is being levelled to silence legitimate and important debate. Antisemitism is on the rise, but there is also a rise in the unscrupulous use of the term to silence reasonable questions about the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza. This article in the Harvard Crimson by Jewish community leader Bernie Steinberg warns of incipient McCarthyism. It is worth reading, whichever side of the debate you are on.’ This tweet is indeed in relation to an article which I’ll move onto in a moment, but hold the bus here two minutes, have you looked in a mirror sunshine?
