The Himalaya Range or Himalayas for short (English pronunciation: /hɪˈmɑːləjə/ or /ˌhɪməˈleɪ.ə/; Sanskrit: हिमालय), Tamil:emaya malai, meaning “abode of snow“,[1] is a mountain range in Asia, separating the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau.
