How Did LHAASO Identify the First Super Cosmic Ray Accelerator in the Milky Way?
🌌 China’s major scientific facility, the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), recently discovered a gigantic ultra-high-energy gamma-ray bubble structure in the Cygnus star-forming region. This marks the first time in history that the source of cosmic rays with energies exceeding 10 Peta-Electronvolt has been identified.
✨ To be specific, massive stars in the OB association (Cygnus OB2) near the center of the bubble far surpass the Sun in size and mass. They emit radiation hundreds to millions of times more intense, blowing stellar material into powerful winds at speeds up to 1000 km/s, serving as potent particle accelerators.
