“Tesla Owner“ - Marsh Family parody adaptation of “Desdemona“ (Kids from Fame) about Elon Musk and X

It’s hard to tell from his tweets. But what you can DEFINITELY tell from them that he has a wrongheaded understanding of what’s been going on in the UK, where, in the last week, there have been a spate of limited but upsetting rampages by Far Right idiots, whipped into a furore largely through false claims and conspiracy theories online. Musk described this, ridiculously, as “Civil War” when in fact it was a handful of incidents largely of a violent and thuggish nature perpetrated by people with previous criminal convictions (often targeting minorities). Luckily because we have restrictions in the UK, there were no guns. The police were brave and coordinated, and now the justice system is taking its course with plenty of arrests and gaol sentences. In the meantime, huge numbers of UK citizens came out in solidarity in anti-fascist gatherings on Wednesday. But the whole thing was precipitated and encouraged by idiots exaggerating fears for their own benefit and with little to lose personally... ...Which brings us to Musk and the hilariously saccharine song “Desdemona” (by the kids from Fame, written by Barry Fasman and Steve Sperry). It’s from a weird American show with themes about self-liberation and celebrity – and carrying overtones of race and class tension, and undertones of family – called “Fame” (which was initially a film in 1980 and then a TV series). For all those reasons, and because the kids vetoed a Gangsta Rap parody of “X Gon’ Give It To Ya” we decided to choose it to mark Elon Musk’s weird forays into conspiracy theories, fake news, baiting, stirring, and misinformation, using his unprecedented power and ownership of the platform X (formerly Twitter). We haven’t yet decide to quit Twitter/X (as many have, understandably), but we’ll see if we get booted from it for poking fun at its owner (also the owner of Tesla, SpaceX, and numerous other entities).
