Massive explosion rips through night-vision goggle factory near Moscow

More than thirty people have been injured in a mysterious explosion at a factory near Moscow producing scopes and night vision devices for the Russian military. Emergency services said a fire at the Zagorsk Optical-Mechanical Plant started in a warehouse used for storing fireworks, according to Russia’s Tass news agency. The cause has not been confirmed, although Russian authorities denied it was the result of an alleged Ukrainian drone attack earlier today. Unverified footage on social media showed a huge mushroom cloud, and high-rise buildings with windows blown out. The facility was evacuated following the blast, which one Russian blogger said “shook the city”. Regional governor Andrey Vorobyov said nearby apartments and a sports centre had been damaged.
