Ernestine Schumann-Heink, Contralto (1861-1936) Gaetano Donizetti - Lucrezia Borgia Brindisi - sung in German - (Recorded 1909) My personal opinion: A contralto with the flexibility of a soprano and the ability for trills and coloraturas, Schumann-Heink was unique. We don´t have contraltos like her any more (except Marilyn Horne). Hear a record from her and you become a witness of an extincted art of singing.
