Yearling wolf and pups rolling around on the ground
A great look at the difference in size/appearance of yearling wolves and wolf pups (and some nice footage of some Windsong Pack wolves to boot!).
The collared wolf is Wolf O0C who we tagged as a pup in Spring 2020 and is 1.5 years old in this video. The other two wolves are pups that were born in Spring 2021 that are 6 months old.
You can see some pretty clear differences in size and overall appearance between O0C and the pups. Most obvious, in our opinion— aside from the clear size difference—are the difference in the face of the wolves. The pups just have a juvenile looking appearance that O0C doesn’t have.
By fall, pups are starting to look more and more like adults but just aren’t quite there yet. Notably, these pups are both females so they would likely be smaller than O0C, who is a male, when adults. Regardless, the pups still have many clear “pup-like“ features that will not be noticeable when they are just a tad older.
