Macron’s Hopes Dashed as BRICS refused to invite him to its summit
The allure of the BRICS coalition is on the rise, transforming it into a highly coveted and exclusive entity. With over 50 nations expressing interest in joining the ranks, this once-niche club has evolved into a global sensation. But as the spotlight intensifies, it’s evident that not just anyone gains access to their inner circle or gatherings. Nevertheless, entry isn’t granted to all, not even to the likes of President Macron, whose bid for an invitation to their imminent summit was met with a resounding rejection.
According to a South African news outlet cited by Sputnik, even though French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his willingness to participate in the upcoming BRICS Summit involving Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, he did not receive an invitation. Interestingly, the chairman of BRICS, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, has extended invitations to the leaders of 70 countries. The South African publication reported that among the 70 leaders on the list, there was an absence of French President Macron, as well as the leaders from the United States and the United Kingdom. This move is not particularly surprising given the current geopolitical issues about Russia, Africa, and the rest of the world. The upcoming BRICS Summit is scheduled to occur at the Johannesburg Sandton International Conference Center from August 22 to 24, commencing with a Business Forum.
