Old and RARE Chainsaw Restoration + Engine startup
I hope you will enjoy this video, Very old and RARE Chainsaw Restoration :)
Let me tell you something about this chainsaw.
I found it inside an old barn when cleaning out after my grandfather passed away.
And apparently it was at first purchased by my father’s grandfather and used for a few years and when he passed away it was passed down to my father and then to me.
As you can see in the video i did a full restoration of the saw and managed to get it running again. :)

Tandsbyns Mech. Verkstad & Co was started by the brothers Hugo and Sture Ericson in 1944. At first, mainly gas generators were manufactured. Hugo Ericson’s experiment with natural gas-powered aircraft can be mentioned as a curiosity. Hugo, who was very interested in aviation, built several airplanes himself, one of which took off with a gas-powered engine. Tandsbyns Mech. Workshop began in 1946 when the demand for natural gas generators decreased to manufacture a boat engine called Delfin. The Delfin engine was produced until 1958 in 5 different versions with outputs from 1.7 hp to 8 hp.
Designers Hugo Ericson and Bengt Bister, who also held other patents, later constructed a clearing saw that was partly based on the Delfin 66. The prototype was produced in record time in just 18 days to be exhibited at a forestry fair in 1956. The clearing saws sold under the brand name Companion began sold to a customer in 1957. Clearing saws were now the company’s dominant product.
The clearing saws were equipped with float carburetors, but membrane carburetors were available as an option. Tandsbyns Mech. Verkstad also sold water pumps that were powered by the brushcutter’s motor unit.
Hugo Ericson and Bengt Bister also designed two chainsaw models for Tandsbyns Mek. Workshop, these were called the Companion chainsaw later Companion MS1 (=chainsaw type 1) and Companion MS2 (Type designation in trade 2-78). Chainsaw production reportedly started from the constructor in 1960 with the launch of the Companion (MS 1) chainsaw. In the autumn of 1960, around 10 test saws were first delivered. Series production and sales in larger numbers to customers started soon after.
Companion sold only through factory direct sales and had no resellers. In addition to normal piece sales, the Companion MS2 had the “twin purchase“ option. Twin purchases included two chainsaws as well as the bar and chain for one saw. Package consisting of two drive units and a cutting equipment cost SEK 1290 plus VAT (Sept. 1966). The idea behind this was that if a drive unit broke, the bar and chain were moved and the broken one sent to the manufacturer in Tandsbyn Jämtland for repair.
Husqvarna Vapenfabriks AB bought the entire company in 1970 in order to gain greater manufacturing capacity and new knowledge regarding clearing saw manufacturing.
