Is Your Starbucks Coffee Poisoning You?

Have you heard the news? Starbucks must now post a warning saying that coffee poses a significant risk for causing cancer. This is because of a lawsuit filed concerning Prop. 65 in California that states a warning must be issued for any products that go over a set amount of certain cancer causing chemicals. In Starbucks case - it’s acrylamide. What is acrylamide? Acrylamideis a chemical used in a slew of manufacturing processes such as making paper, plastics, and dyes. It can be used in the treatment of drinking water and wastewater. It is found in food wrap, tobacco smoke, and even certain foods. This is where the real problem comes in and why I think the Starbucks issue is pretty lame. French fries and potato chips have over 800 times the legal amount of acrylamide. Is there a warning on the last serving of  fries you bought? Does your bag of potato chips have a cancer warning? No, but they probably should. Even the water coming out of your facet has acrylamide.
