ISS: Cosmonauts honour 60th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s historic flight

Mandatory credit: Roscosmos Russian cosmonauts sent their greetings from the International Space Station (ISS) on Sunday, on what marks Yuri Gagarin’s historic 1961 flight, known as Cosmonautics Day in Russia. Expedition 65’s main crew member Oleg Novitsky paid tribute to the cosmonaut who was the first person to fly in space, 60 years ago. “The legendary 108 minutes of Gagarin’s flight became an example of heroism for his followers, including us,” he said. “That day, the whole planet learned his name, because new history began, the history of manned space flights,“ his crewmate Sergei Kud-Sverchkov added. “Dear friends, on this day we would like to congratulate everyone on this holiday and anniversary. We thank everyone who has dedicated his life to the study of the universe. We thank everyone who has worked and continues to work to push humanity further and further in space exploration,” cosmonaut P
