In today’s video, we refurbish an old Crown consumer brand crepe iron.
It was patented in 1875.
The manufacturer of this crepe iron was the American company North Bros, based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The firm was founded in 1878 as a foundry owned by Selden Gladwin North.
In 1880, Selden was joined by his brother Ralph and the North Brothers Manufacturing Company was formed.
The company began to specialize in the production of hand tools, small appliances and some power tools.

This iron was most popular in the years 1860-1880 when it was used on collars, ruffles, cuffs, which were detachable for more frequent washing.
And how did it work?
This crepe iron has hollow corrugated rollers.
Heated logs were inserted into the cylinders.
The rollers heated up and the fabric became more sensitive and shaped better.
A creasing effect was created. (creasing)
